Mrs Bhagirathi Yenagi : Kith And Kin Shower Heap Of Praise

Bengaluru:
Nonagenarian Mrs Bhagirathi Yenagi is revered not just by her children alone, but even by her daughters-in-law as well as sons-in-law apart from relatives, family friends and all others she came in contact with. All of them showered heaps of praise on the grand old woman. Here are excerpts of the same:

A Lady with the Great Great Grandmother’s Crown

The most cherished and decorative crown of a 90-year-old belongs to Smt. Bhagirathi Yenagi—our beloved Great-Great-Grandmother (my mother-in-law). She begins her day by calling all her children, grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, checking in on everyone, and sharing updates. This simple yet heartfelt ritual fills her with comfort and contentment for the entire day.

She was fortunate to have a well-educated and kind-hearted husband, Shri Virupakshappa Yenagi, who was calm, composed, and polite. Together, they made a beautiful couple—both tall and graceful. My father-in-law cherished her company, especially when watching movies in the theater.

She possesses a divine talent for cooking and an innate ability to serve food with love and warmth. A courageous woman, she has faced and overcome many challenges in life with resilience. Some of my favorite dishes she prepared were lime pickle, rava laddu, holige, and jolad vade.

Her sharp memory and her knack for sharing past incidents and experiences bring us joy and nostalgia. May she always be blessed with good health and happiness.

My mother is an angel.

My mother is an angel. Just like by swinging a jadui chadi, she gets all her work done and remains untired even after completing the work. She is a faithful Annabrahma who never wastes a single grain of rice.  She is very much following the principles of athithi devobhava, kayakave kailasa. She immediately recognised my father's Alzheimer's disease, took the advice of some well-wishers and got him treated by the doctor and restored his normal health.

-Dr Shakuntala Kalyani, eldest daughter.

Dr Shakuntala Kalyani is the elder daughter. She did her M.Sc and Ph.D in Zoology from Karnataka University Dharwad (KUD). She served and retired as a Professor and Head from HSK Science Institute and KS Arts College Hubballi.

She has many educated behaviours

Though she is illiterate, she has many educated behaviours, which she expresses very aptly. She is very bold and courageous, and that is how she was a big supporter to our father in all respects. She hasn't attended the school even for one day, but she encouraged all of us to go for higher education. She never demanded anything from our father or any of us. She is highly patient and painstaking and has actualized her name, "Bhagirathi". She always struggled for whatever she wanted to and succeeded in it. She deserves all the credit in life.

-Dr Ganga Yenagi, second daughter.

Dr. Ganga Yenagi is the second daughter. She did her Master's and Ph.D in Psychology from Karnataka University Dharwad (KUD). She served as a Professor at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad.

None of us can beat her

She is hardworking, painstaking and very hospitable. She is courageous, bold and highly social. She is very judicious in using things, be it food, money or clothing. She is very strong and active at the age of 90 years. None of us can beat her in any of these things!

-Dr Channappa Nawalagatti

Dr C.M. Nawalagatti is the second son-in-law who graduated from the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad. He did his master's and Ph.D  in Crop Physiology from UAS Dharwad. He worked and retired as a Professor and the Head of the Department of Crop Physiology,  UAS Dharwad.

She is a living Goddess to me

I am so lucky at my 63rd age, because my my Mother, Bhageerathi cares so much so that, I still feeling like a child! Every day she cares as if it's the first day of my life! She keeps giving health tips, behavior tips for different kinds of people, lectures on the logic of life, and help for Money too! I feel so lucky to have a Mother like mine! Feel like every creature in the Universe should have Mothers like mine! Feel very Proud of her! She is a living goddess to me.

-Mohan Yenagi, second son.

Mohan Yenagi is the second son who graduated from BV Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering, Hubballi and is doing business.

A woman with modern thinking

My mother-in-law is a woman with a great deal of patience and modern thinking, inspired me to work alongside my husband and to help contribute my share of finances. She is a wonderful caretaker for my children while I am busy helping my husband in his office. I couldn't imagine raising my kids along with carrying out office work.
