Bengaluru: ICAR - Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru, located in Hesaraghatta, is hosting the National Horticulture Fair from February 27 to March 1. People from different parts of the country are expected to visit and witness the event.
This year, the preparations for the horticultural fair are in full swing, and a special attraction has been included—a string puppet show.
As an innovative initiative, a puppet show titled "Arka Kranti" has been designed to educate farmers about modern agricultural practices and IIHR's latest technologies. This unique approach is meant to convey knowledge engagingly.
The story revolves around farmers' lives and agriculture, developed by Dr. Ramya H.R., an agricultural scientist at IIHR. Having a background in both agriculture and theatre, she has directed this play in collaboration with Naveen Krishi from the Theatre Therapy group.
Why Puppet Theatre for Farmers?
Through this traditional art form, farmers will learn about:
Modern farming techniques and their benefits
Cost-effective agricultural methods
High-yielding crop varieties
Farmer-friendly machinery
Value-added products
Entrepreneurship opportunities for farmers
Women farmers' livelihood security
Current challenges in agriculture and their solutions
By blending traditional art with modern science, this initiative makes complex agricultural knowledge easy to understand for farmers. At the same time, it also helps preserve and promote the fading art of puppetry and supports traditional artists.
Dr. Ramya H.R. emphasized that this initiative is both a social responsibility and an educational tool.
The puppet show will be performed on all three days of the horticultural fair at IIHR. Dr. Tushar Kanti Behera, Director of IIHR, and Dr. VKJ Rao, Head of the Social Science and Training Division, have encouraged farmers and the general public to make the most of this valuable opportunity.
