Bengaluru: Shani Shinganapur also known as Shingnapur is a sought-after pilgrimage centre for devout-minded people. It is well-known for devotees thronging from all over the state of Maharashtra, India and across the globe. The place is at a distance of 35 kilometres from Ahmednagar.
Renowned for the Shani temple: Shani Shinganapur is located in Nevasa Taluka of Ahmednagar district and is famous for the Shani or Shanaischara shrine. Shani or Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest in the Solar System, after Jupiter. Saturn is said to be a gas giant, with an average radius of about nine times that of Earth. Although it has an eighth of the average density of Earth, it in all likelihood is over 95 times more massive in nature.
Blooms full of life: In the area and size of the local population, Shani Shinganapur is a small temple town just like the other equally famous Shirdi and well-known for its Sai Mandir. In a way, both these nearby places of worship attract devotees throughout the year and more so during the period between Thursday and Sunday, festivals and public holidays. Both these temple towns are full of life throughout the day and most of the evening.
Bullock carts to transport Sugarcane: Like other Sugarcane growing areas of the country Bullock carts are being used here in a very big way to transport Sugarcane from the fields to the factory. At times, it appears like a never-ending parade of the carts being pulled by the poor bullocks. Taking into consideration the huge quantity of Sugarcane crop-packed to the extent of multiple tons, it looks like a pathetic plight of the dumb animals. However, proximity to the nearby Sugar mill is the reason and explanation given for such a situation.
Wood-pressed Sugarcane juice: All along the poorly maintained roads leading to Shani Shinganapur one can find any number of outlets selling Sugarcane juice extracted from wood-pressed equipment. These heavy wood materials equipment are run by a single bullock, which keeps going around the equipment to crush the slender canes into relishable sweet juice.
A speciality of Shani Shinganapur roads: It is said that these cold-pressed outlets called Rasavanti Gruhas locally are a speciality of all roads leading to Shani Shinganapur. Elsewhere and across the country you can see Sugarcane juice outlets deploying machines wherein the canes are placed between the iron wheels to extract juice. Initially, in some places, the juice was extracted by manually rotating the machine; but over some time mechanical equipment using diesel came into being.
Tastes better than diesel machines: According to Santosh Shankar Adsure, proprietor of one roadside Rasavanti Gruha: The Sugarcane juice produced at the cold-pressed units tastes far better than the usual ones using iron wheels. In them, the oil leaks into the juice and even residue of the cane waste makes its way into it. That is the primary reason why people keep coming in search of the wooden outlets. People rejoice in drinking several glasses and feeling happy.
Only around Shani Shinganapur: Here, iron equipment units are less in comparison to wooden ones. The juice extracted from the iron units doesn't taste well compared to the cold-pressed units. We also sell organic jaggery made out of these units and customers enjoy them a lot, informed Santosh Shankar Adsure.
