Brentwood(United Kingdom), 21 August: Chetan decided to take us to a place called Dover, a major ferry port town. It is in Kent, South East England. It is the narrowest English channel and 833 kilometres from Cap Gris Nez in France. It is also the administrative centre of the Dover district and home of the Port Dover.
An unending strip of grasslands: Adjacent to the port there are unending grasslands while the hillock looks so beautiful and covered with grass. All along you can see grass grown to knee-length. At the same time, the weather was biting cold, and the breeze was cool at a speed of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour.
Five kilometres by walk: We had to walk around five kilometres to reach the post called the Lighthouse. It has become a tourist place. Our friend Maruti had difficulty coping with cold and wind. One thing I noticed was that a lot of tourists come in their own cars to visit the tourist destination.
No street dog anywhere! Interestingly, most of the tourists also bring their pet dogs with them and it appeared funny to us. Another peculiar observation was none of these pet canines behaved like our own stray dogs or pet ones, back home in India. After coming to the United Kingdom, nowhere within the city limits or outskirts of any other town or city did we notice even a single street dog, which remains puzzling and I also found it strange.
A horrifying and enjoyable experience: Coming back to the wind and bitterly cold weather it was very difficult to walk due to the too-cloudy and drizzling weather. Chetan told us during a clear sky-like situation one can see France from the point where we were. On the whole, the experience of visiting Dover was both, horrifying and at the same time enjoyable as well.
Coronation place of Kings and Queens: On the way back we went through Canterbury, a place where the Kings and Queens of England were coronated. We went to see the church which had been closed for repair. However, we had a view of the same from the outside. We visited a pub and tasted Corona draught beer. Overall, it was a good journey but a tiring one.
