When Punjab Chief Minister's Son Was Paraded On Underwear

Year, 1959, Place Amritsar. Some Indian Army Officers & their wives went to the Railway Station to see off one of their colleagues. Some goons made lewd remarks against the women & tried to molest them. The Army Officers chased the goons who took shelter in a nearby Cinema Theatre. The matter was reported to Commanding Officer Col Jyothi Mohan Sen. On learning about the incident, the Col ordered the Cinema Hall to be surrounded by troops. All the goons were dragged out, the leader of the goons was so heady and drunk with power; he was none other than the son of Chief Minister of Punjab, Pratap Singh Kairon, a close associate of the then PM, Jawahar Lal Nehru. All the goons were stripped to their underwear, paraded in the streets of Amritsar & later interned in the Cantonment. Dr Godwin Shiri as the name itself suggests is truly a Godly person who won the hearts of people all along and wherever he went across the globe. He is a well-read, widely travelled religious personality having contributed any number of books and translations of eminent philosophers. He is turning 79 today and looking back there seems to be a huge list of accomplishments worth cherishing on the way. Priest on his own inclination: Dr Godwin Shiri himself voluntarily opted for the priestly vocation of becoming a Pastor at a young age, much against the wishes of his family. Bengaluru: Simon CM spearheading the People Connected to Awareness (PCA) Trust has dedicated his available time to the welfare of society. He takes pleasure in making repeated attempts for the overall well-being of society without expecting anything in return. He has been aptly and wholeheartedly supported by his wife Rose Mary working as a Teacher and Arogya Mary, his 90-year-old mother. In an informal freewheeling chat, Simon CM took time to enlist the variety of social activities he has been into: People Connected to Awareness (PCA) Trust: I was perturbed at the injustices committed in society and atrocities of the rich on poor, the highhandedness of the haves on the have-nots and things like that. After much introspection and never-ending debate within myself, at one stage I concluded that nothing is permanent in this world.
