Shivanand K Pattar's Solo Exhibition in Mumbai's Jehangir Art Gallery

Bengaluru:
Shivanand K Pattar, veteran artist and Lecturer of the Government Fine Art School Dharwad is holding a solo exhibition at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai. The exhibition is slated to be inaugurated on 04 June and will continue until 10 June.

Alumnus of Hampi Kannada University:
Shivanand K Pattar is an alumnus of the Hampi Kannada University doing his Masters in Visual Arts. He completed the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Karnataka University, Dharwad, apart from doing the AM, and GD courses from the Shri Vivekanand Kalamandira, Raibag in Belagavi district.

A gradual shift from figurative to abstraction:
According to Gayatri Desai, senior artist and Varnashilpi Venkatappa awardee-"Shivanand K. Pattar's art practice reflects how the artist has shifted slowly from figurative to abstraction with time. The body of works, mainly abstracts, titled ' Elements' makes the viewer contemplate seriously on the elements of life and the elements of art simultaneously".

World visible through light:
She asserts-"The configuration of Indian philosophical thoughts, mainly from the Sāṁkhya philosophy, which details the elements, the pancha bhutas like air, water, light, earth and akasa and with the elements of art, ultimately leads to a strong statement that is - life is art. Elemental substances individually or in combination, become the material causes of the products of the world. The world is only visible through light, which has colour, temperature, fluidity and velocity".

A trace of the artist's maturity:
Gayatri Desai tracks the professional growth of the artist by opining-" With this concept at the helm, the big canvasses with pleasant translucent colours present a world of mystery to the viewers. 'Light' as a prominent and focal element in the oeuvre, animates the space with a fusion of horizontal and vertical bands of colours. Over time, these heavy bands of colours have been reduced to small thin stripes as a trace of the artist's maturity".

Rich visual sensation to the viewers:
She signs off by concluding-"The colours too have mellowed gracefully and the big canvases are mainly in greys, browns, yellow ochre, and so on with the touch of brilliant flashes of light in the canvases indicating the artist's sensitivity in the handling of space and colours. The controlled implementation of texture against the smooth spread of colours on the canvases renders a rich visual sensation to the viewers. On the whole, the whole oeuvre generates sensations in the onlooker".

When Punjab Chief Minister's Son Was Paraded On Underwear

Year, 1959, Place Amritsar. Some Indian Army Officers & their wives went to the Railway Station to see off one of their colleagues. Some goons made lewd remarks against the women & tried to molest them. The Army Officers chased the goons who took shelter in a nearby Cinema Theatre. The matter was reported to Commanding Officer Col Jyothi Mohan Sen. On learning about the incident, the Col ordered the Cinema Hall to be surrounded by troops. All the goons were dragged out, the leader of the goons was so heady and drunk with power; he was none other than the son of Chief Minister of Punjab, Pratap Singh Kairon, a close associate of the then PM, Jawahar Lal Nehru. All the goons were stripped to their underwear, paraded in the streets of Amritsar & later interned in the Cantonment. The next day, the Chief Minister became furious & tried to release his son from Indian Army's incarceration. Do you know what happened? His vehicle was not allowed to go into the Cantonment a

Dr Godwin Shiri: An Accomplished Theologist, Author, Research Scholar and Social Scientist..

Dr Godwin Shiri as the name itself suggests is truly a Godly person who won the hearts of people all along and wherever he went across the globe. He is a well-read, widely travelled religious personality having contributed any number of books and translations of eminent philosophers. He is turning 79 today and looking back there seems to be a huge list of accomplishments worth cherishing on the way. Priest on his own inclination: Dr Godwin Shiri himself voluntarily opted for the priestly vocation of becoming a Pastor at a young age, much against the wishes of his family. The sight of the Cross of Lord Jesus Christ and the scenario of thousands of workers marching holding red flags in his native town Mangaluru had a lasting effect on him as a young boy. Recalling the good old days Godwin Shiri admits-"Perhaps they sowed in me the seeds of compassion and social justice".
