Vegetarianism has many takers across the globe these days: NV Raghuram

People travelling abroad and also being rigid vegetarians really had a tough time throughout their journey abroad, but not these days. Says NV Raghuram, co-founder of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandana Samsthana Arogyadhama(S-VYASA), here.

Vegetarianism continues to surge: In a freewheeling chat, he shared his opinion on the present developments of vegetarianism making a surge in leaps and bounds elsewhere-“There has been a lot of awareness among the people these days and there is no requirement of mentioning any religion while talking about these aspects. Many a top achiever has been vegetarians just because they had the practice of adhering to vegetarianism”.

Vegetarian burgers in abundance: He continues-“Now vegetarian burgers are available in abundance. Gone are the days of vegetarians forced to starve for lack of vegan foodstuff. A top-notch Tennis player’s remarks of admitting being a disciple of Lord Krishna and also a vegetarian have given altogether a different dimension towards the growth of vegetarianism in the western world”.

Health is our own nature: “Everyone knows health is nothing else but a reflection of our own nature. We need to be careful about anything that is being introduced in the guise of medicines. There have been a lot of efforts underway to instil confidence among people and these days, people have slowly started realizing the myths and facts about everything”, claims NV Raghuram.

Who gave Covid-19 vaccines to the world? “In comparison to the older days, medicines cannot be bulldozed now. Even in the United States, people are much more aware of the ill effects of medicines. All these years people were making fun of the country’s capabilities and preparedness. We aren’t denying vaccines and surgeries. But who gave the world two Covid-19 vaccines”? he questions.

Cultural changes happen from inside: He also is very categorical when it comes to culture-“There is no policy required when vegetarianism is part of our culture. And moreover, cultural changes happen from the inside. Due to the stiff resistance earlier the western world tried to block Ayurvedic products and refused to accept them as medicines. But, now the same stuff is entering their society as health supplements”.

Beef industry on the collapse: NV Raghuram also claimed-“The beef industry has collapsed on its own in many states of the US without any intervention”. A San Francisco based RethinkX, claiming to be an independent think tank proclaimed on a study in 2019 predicting the collapse of the US conventional beef industry by 2030. But Tim Petry, North Dakota State University livestock marketing economist dismissed all such claims. On the contrary, he quoted statistics to negate the claims outrightly.

Economic power required to be heard: He also opined-“If at all we need to be heard elsewhere we have to become economically strong. The Prime Minister prefers to speak in Hindi, wherever he goes. He also insists that vegetarian food be served in the White House. We don’t need to be worried to blame others are wrong. Instead, we just need to adhere to what we believe and practice”.
