BJP springs surprise in Karnataka and Telangana while draws blank in AP, TN and Kerala

The Bharatiya Janata Party has written new history in Karnataka, considered as the Gateway to South India by snatching 25 out of 28 Lok Sabha constituencies and managing to win from four seats in Telangana. However it has failed to register any win in either of the remaining South Indian states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Probably the biggest surprise for the saffron party today turned out to be Karnataka which bagged literally the whole state barring a mere two constituencies, one each to the Congress and JDS. The third seat was won by an Independent but supported by the BJP.Another noteworthy feature of today's results happened to be the total rout of veteran politicians and emergence of novices transforming out as new heroes on the political arena.

HD Devegowda, former prime minister and Janata Dal Secular party supremo, Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the Congress party group in the Lok Sabha, M Veerappa Moily, former chief minister and central minister, KH Muniyappa, seven times MP...all were humiliatingly defeated by lesser known personalities. On the other hand Prajwal Revanna, grandson of HD Devegowda and son of HD Revanna, Hassan district in charge minister in the coalition government as expected retained Hassan, the family bastion to the party fold.

Ms Sumalatha Ambareesh, multilingual actor and wife of MH Ambareesh, late film star turned politician also checkmated Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of HD Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister in Mandya constituency. The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) also sprung a surprise in neighboring Telangana by winning in four constituencies, three more than what the party had won in 2014 polls. Likewise the Congress party also bettered its position by bagging three seats, two more than the previous elections.

However the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi party of K Chandrasekhar Rao had to concede two seats and thereby its strength dipped from 11 to 9.Interestingly two other local parties, Telugu Desam and YSRCP which had representation in one constituency each were in the receiving end by losing in both. It was earlier predicted that both, BJP and Congress will be wiped out in the present elections but instead the results proved the other way round for the two regional parties which drew a blank.

As expected the AIMIM succeeded, thanks to the alliance with TRS, in retaining the lone seat in Hyderabad. In Andhra Pradesh the YSRCP has almost swept the polls by triumphing in 22 out of the total 25 seats and leaving behind only three seats to the Telugu Desam party(TDP). The party has managed to snatch 12 seats held by the TDP and two won by the BJP earlier.Hence the Bharatiya Janata Party has drawn a blank in Andhra Pradesh while the tally of Telugu Desam has dipped from 15 to 3!

In Tamil Nadu the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK) party has bounced back like a phoenix bird by winning in 23 constituencies and enabling the remaining alliance partners to win in other 12 constituencies.Congress has won in 8 constituencies while CPI, CPM and others have won in two constituencies each. The DMK had drawn a blank in 2014 polls and likewise the CPI, CPM and others had no seats to represent.

On the other hand the Bharatiya Janata Party has failed to retain the lone seat it had won during the previous elections. It's the same story with PMK which has also lost its lone seat. The ruling AIADMK which had literally swept the 2014 polls by winning in 37 constituencies was left with just one constituency this time.In Kerala the opposition Congress led United Democratic Front(UDF) has swept the polls by bagging 17 seats and leaving behind only three seats to the ruling Left Democratic Front(LDF).

The matter was reported to Commanding Officer Col Jyothi Mohan Sen. On learning about the incident, the Col ordered the Cinema Hall to be surrounded by troops. All the goons were dragged out, the leader of the goons was so heady and drunk with power; he was none other than the son of Chief Minister of Punjab, Pratap Singh Kairon, a close associate of the then PM, Jawahar Lal Nehru. All the goons were stripped to their underwear, paraded in the streets of Amritsar & later interned in the Cantonment. The next day, the Chief Minister became furious & tried to release his son from Indian Army's incarceration. Do you know what happened? His vehicle was not allowed to go into the Cantonment a...

Sri Veereshwar Punyashrama: A unique gurukul institution with multiple contributions to the society Sri Veereshwar Punyashrama of Gadag district in the state of Karnataka is a household name in most of the regions belonging to North Karnataka and adjoining areas of neighboring states as well. The contributions of this revered religious and cultural institution to the society and humankind are endless and the list continues to keep on increasing till date.
