Jaganmohan Reddy walks in father's footsteps to ascend CM's throne in Andhra Pradesh
Jaganmohan Reddy, YSR Congress party leader and leader of the opposition in the Andhra Pradesh state Assembly has created a new record of sorts by walking the state on foot.He concluded his 'Praja Sanklapa Padyatra' today by addressing a mammoth public meeting at Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district.
YSR party sources claim that this padyatra is the longest one undertaken by any political leader in the country. In fact he began his walk on foot across the 13 districts of the state from Idupulapaya in Kadala district from 6 November 2017.
It may be recalled here that incidentally this is also the final resting place of his father YS Rajasekhar Reddy popularly referred as YSR.
In over 429 days but 340 days of actual walking Jaganmohan Reddy has covered 3,648 kilometres and thereby reaching out to 134 of the total 175 Assembly constituencies.
Rough estimates put the number of people he met during the more than one year padyatra as an amazing two crores!
He also made it a point to reach out to all segments of the society during this long march and made use of the opportunity politically by making all types of tall promises in the event of being voted to power.
Jaganmohan Reddy as of now looks to be on the brighter side of Andhra politics in comparison to the waning popularity of the incumbent Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Interestingly and surprisingly all those who have undertaken prolonged padyatras in unified or divided Andhra Pradesh have rose to the hot seat!
YS Rajasekhar Reddy while in Congress had also undertaken a statewide tour on foot during 2004 to end the 9+ years old regime of Chandrababu Naidu.
Likewise the same Chandrababu Naidu adopted the same ploy of going on a 2,800 kilometres foot march during 2013 to cherish his fond dream of becoming the chief minister once again in 2014!
Sheer nonsense you may claim at such political developments in the state by and large boasting of only two classes, rich and poor while the middle class flock in entirety to the adjoining states seeking green pastures.
If you were to glance at the results of the 16 May 2014 Assembly election results then it would be no big surprise to come to a conclusion that Jaganmohan Reddy is bound to emerge victorious in a big way.
Telugu Desam returned to power by garnering 32.5 percentage of the votes polled and bagging 103 seats while in spite of grabbing 32.01 percentage of votes YSR Congress had to be content in managing to get only 66 seats.
Chandrababu Naidu has ever been known for switching sides and ditching his partners all along his political innings and backstabbing his own father in law turned mentor, the legendary NT Ramarao!
A former Congress MLA turned Telugu Desam strongman, Chandrababu Naidu hijacked his father in law's party to dethrone him and become the new CM and power centre of AP.
The midnight coup rattled the ailing Telugu Desam founder to such an devastating extent that he became a witness to his own disgusting and pathetic end much similar to the roles of his celluloid era wherein he won the hearts of generations of film goers.
And even after many decades of such a background Chandrababu Naidu continues to prove that he'll never change or intend to.
After managing to come to power he chose to quit the Bharatiya Janata Party led National Democratic Alliance on the eve of general elections and has joined hands with the Congress with a dream of coming back to power once again which looks like a mirage as of now.
But Jaganmohan Reddy's ascension to the top post is not a path of roses as he also has the maverick Pawan Kalyan to meddle with on the way.Although the latter may not win sizeable seats just like Chiranjeevi, mega star turned politician but has all the capacity of becoming a thorn in others flesh.
But it's high time for the Bharatiya Janata Party to clinch a deal with the YSRCP if at all it intends to have its presence felt apart from trying to win a handful of seats in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
